Need I even recommend the wineries? You’ll seriously miss out if you chose to skip on the local vino. South Dakota’s wine industry has taken off in the last 10 years with the diverse grapes that are being developed. Depending on where you plan to visit, there are several wineries to choose from. In Hill City you can find Prairie Berry (famed for their Red Ass Rhubarb wine), Naked Winery (Try their Penetration wine), and Stone Faces Winery + Bed and Breakfast. Rapid City holds Firehouse Wine Cellars, and located farther north is the Belle Joli Winery with tasting locations in Sturgis, and Deadwood. Just make sure to call ahead as many have early closing times.
